Synopsis

As war rages across the world, the Coalition sends two of its most prestigious groups to secure a githyanki outpost.  It is discovered to have a portal to the Well of Worlds, a planar nexus that allows the githyanki to move between planes.  They discover that the Well can be controlled by eldritch keys, and those keys are in the hands of the githyanki war leaders.  They discover that Admiral Kada'ne, leader of the githyanki airship navy, is located at Garitha's Anvil, though the Coalition refuses to utilize the Well of Worlds to lead an assault on this shipyard.  The PCs must take control of the Coalition, and, along with the Hundred Heroes, take the fight to the githyanki, raze the Anvil, and capture Admiral Kada'ne and his key.

Locations

  • Thiradith - a ruin dating back to the time of Nerath, now serving as a Coalition outpost in the northern lands near Sayre.
  • The Fane of Chanhiir - a githyanki temple built by Chanhiir, a powerful githyanki mage who lived eons ago.  The Fane itself watches over the World Gate, portals that connect the planes, and they connect to the Well of Worlds.
  • The Well of Worlds - A planar nexus that only githyanki and those bearing the Whitefire Mark may enter.  The githyanki believe the Well is impregnable, protected by powerful magic and kept secret to all.
  • Garaitha's Anvil - a githyanki shipyard that houses airships and astral craft in various states of repair.  Admiral Kada'ne commands his forces from here.

NPCs

  • Birkeni - half-elf fighter, captain of the Thiradith outpost.
  • The Freeriders - Megan Swiftblade, Ragnum Dourstone, Madrick, Ghena Tenson, Sylen Leafrunner
  • Talanee - leader of the Chanhiiri, guardians of the World Gate, Vlaakith loyalist.
  • Bejam - deva mage, Coalition representative from Nefelus
  • Haryssus - eldritch giant, githyanki slave, now a Coalition ally
  • Admiral Kada'ne - admiral of the githyanki airship navy, carries one of the crystal keys to control the Well of Worlds
  • Quelenna Entromiel - possible leader of the Coalition, advocate of cautious defense, commands the Coalition troops to leave the Fane of Chanhiir and refuses to authorize the mission to Garaitha's Anvil
  • The Hundred - the Coalition heroes that pledge their loyalty to the PCs, and fight a strategic battle to take Garaitha's Anvil

Main Plot Points:

  • The githyanki threat is even greater than before, because they have access to a portal system that allows them to move from their bases in the Astral Plan to any place on the prime material plane without needing a terminal portal.

For DM's out there, here's another interpretation of what's going on in this module. This module is confusing due mainly to all the names involved. Be prepared to be confused your first reading through. Re-read the module a few more times before starting it. I still discover new things each time I re-read it.

Act 1 is the players learning about the Fane of Chanhiir and of a "World Gate". The World Gate is a permanent teleportation circle that can take the players anywhere in any dimension, or to the "Well of the Worlds". If the players lack a ritualist, one came with them with the Freeriders that allows them a chance to activate the Portal to contact the Coalition about the finding. The Coalition then sends Bejam to them (Or whoever is considered the best Ritualist they have) to study the "World Gate".

While the players or the Coalition is studying the situation, the civilian Githyanki forces that the players saved, provide a plot dump for any and all remaining details about the current state of the Githyanki (But note, JUST the war, not about Epic tier related plotlines), as well as information on the Well of the Worlds, including information about the necessity of the tattoo. They find the tattoo on a series of ogres they just defeated they can duplicate it to enter the Well of the Worlds. The githyanki civilians leave and the coalition starts working out what they can do with this advantage. This takes us to the next act.

Act 2, The players should decide on getting branded with the tattoo and then enter the Well of the Worlds to clear it out. There, they ambush some more Githyanki and meet up with Haryssus, a rune giant who is imprisoned in the Well of the Worlds. His job is to inform the players that they can own fully control the well if they get one of the few crystal keys that exist. The lease well defended key is owned by Admiral Kada'ne, in the Garaitha's Anvil, in the Astral sea. The Anvil is a astral sea dock. So, the Coalition or the Players, are expected to plan on attacking the Anvil, but will require at least 100 other great paragon tier adventurers to aid them. The 100 are found, branded and then lead to an assault on Garaitha's Anvil.

Act 3, The players along with 100 others NPC's attack the base, most of the fighting is 'off screen' while the players are expected to go for Admiral Kada'ne. Kada'ne makes a run for ad a chase begins. The players are expected get involved in a ship to ship fight before finally taking Kada'ne down and claiming one of the keys. The players and the Coalition now own a shipyard and an impressive portal network. This should be considered a major victory of the campaign to the players and the end of the module.
