Synopsis

Back in Sayre the party learns that Torrance and Kalad have been killed, and assists with the election of a new leader for the Coalition. That done, the party learns that the formorian king Cachlain has been aiding githyanki interplanar troop movements, and was the source of the Seed of Winter used by the dragon Chillreaver in AaN. The party travels to the Feywild to see if Cachlain can be brought to the Coalition's side. Inzira, an eladrin, claims the Seed of Winter, but allows the party to take it to Cachlain's court, hoping an alliance can be forged against Sangwyr, their mutual foe. Reaching the court they learn the king's advisor Sovacles weilds great power over the king. The party explores the King's palace, and learns more of the background to his alliance with the githyanki. An assassination attempt is made upon them, and then an attempted coup upon the king. Sovacles persuades the king that the party is behind it, but then reveals he is working for Tiamat. The King forces a gladitorial battle between the party and the now-revealed exarch of Tiamat. After the party wins, they forge an alliance between the Cachlain and the eladrin.

Main Plot Points

  • Tiamat is behind the githyanki invasion.
  • The eladdrin of the feywild join the coalition against the githyanki.
  • Cachlain discloses the location of a major githyanki base in the mountains north of the Elsir Vale.

Thoughts

  • Cachlain's fortress seems quite small for a Fomorian King. In addition, the players may need some prodding to get out and explore.

Continuity Notes

While the party is in Nefelus, Lord Torrance and Kalad are killed. Kalad dies while preparing for a battle near Sherrbyr; assassinated by the githyanki. Without his leadership the battle ends in defeat for the Coalition. Torrance is killed while on a diplomatic mission to Garaitha’s Anvil. The githyanki claim he came to them as a representative of the council seeking a diplomatic compromise, and was killed for his arrogance.

Bram Ironfell makes a reappearance here; the characters should remember him as he sent them to the Lost Mines of Karak.
