NPC list

Page history last edited by pbworks 7 years, 12 months ago

* Characters with asterisk (*) are featured in Side Quests only

Aerun (Captain)

Details: A Watch Captain for the city of Overlook.

Appearance: A blonde-bearded dwarf.

Mannerisms: Officious, bit of a jerk

Features in: tTB. Should be foreshadowed briefly as captain of the gate guard when the party enters Overlook in SoBW.

Plot Notes: He is a crucial NPC in tTB, possessed by the githyanki as part of the invasion plan, and he becomes a foe to the party.

Alvro Taramin

Details: Tiefling military head of Sayre.

Appearance: Elderly.

Mannerisms: Webmail

Features in: HotBG

Plot Notes: Is aware that his 100 soldier force can not defend Sayre effectively, having seen what happened in Overlook. Attends Telicanthus' tea party.

Alys

Details: Messenger sent to Overlook by Sertanian from Brindol. She carries a message requesting the PCs to return to Brindol to deal with a matter related to one of the relics recovered from Rivenroar. She is kidnapped by the Lost Ones before delivering the message and the AP assumes the PCs eventually rescue her.

Appearance: Young human female

Mannerisms: She is strong and has been a messenger in Elsir Vale for many years, and has run into trouble more than once in her career.

Features in: DotD

Plot Notes: As written Alys only appears in DotD, but it's been suggested to include her in RaR when the PCs are fetched to talk with Eofrram Troyas. Including her in RaR can help tie the AP together.

Possible confusion: In DotD Alys says "The matter concerns one of the relics that you recovered while saving myself and our town’s other captives in Rivenroar". Alys was not one of the captives held at Rivenroar, so she is obviously reciting Sertanian's message here (ie. it is Sertanian who is saying "saving myself").

Amyria

Details: Deva paladin of Bahamut.

Appearance: A young woman of unearthly beauty and grace, with silver hair hanging down her back, and a band of chalk-white pigment stretching from one temple to the other across her eyes. She is garbed in armor made of slender, overlapping plates. In one hand, she holds a leather-bound tome; in the other, the platinum longsword.

Mannerisms:

Features in: RaR, DotD, HotBG, AaN, TotSSK, GA, ToS, LoI, ToL

Plot Notes: Amyria is a crucial NPC throughout the adventure path. She is initially trapped in a platimum sword rescued from Rivenroar, then freed by the party in a ritual in DotD. She later reappears in HotBG, where the party helps her organize the githerzai. She then leads the party to Nefelus in AoN to the aid of the magocracy. In TotSSK, the party nominates her to a war council that will oversee the joint armies involved in the war. In that role, she further guides the party's goals in GA and ToS. Following the destruction of Bahamut's mortal form in GotMC, in LoI Amyria begins experiencing visions of the Arrow of Fate, which the party retrieves. Guided by the artifact, the party realizes that Amyria contains a shard of Bahamut's divine essence, and following her kidnapping in ToL, the party restores Bahamut, causing Amyria to pass on.

Adronsius

Details: An accomplished dwarf alchemist, kidnapped and beaten by Sinruth's hobgoblins.

Appearance: Adronsius has been beat bloody every day since the hobgoblins took him prisoner.

Appearance: Female. No other details provided

Mannerisms: Stoic.

Features in: HotBG

Plot Notes: Urges patience and caution in responding to the attacks on githzerai in Sayre.

Bejam

Details: Deva member of the governing council of Nefelus. Sixth Thraxus and Keeper of the Mirrors.

Appearance: A male deva dressed in a shimmering blue-violet robe with small platinum wings adorning his back.

Mannerisms: Generally friendly to the party.

In GA, Bejam helps the party identify the sigil the githyanki use to allow non-githyanki to access githyanki portals, and later suggests that the party steal a githyanki portal key, which he believes he can reconfigure to allow the Coalition to gain control of the githyanki portal network.

Brann'ot

Details: Githyanki (Gish) assassin.

Appearance: None provided.

Mannerisms: None provided.

Features in: HotBG, ACA*

Plot Notes: Sent to assassinate the githzerai leaders of Akma'ad. Later attempts to ambush the party on their way to Sayre.

Side Quest Note: Before he is defeated in encounter S1 (at about 1/4 HP or less), he will attempt to escape by using his Astral Slide power to disappear from combat. After this, his next assignment takes him to the side quest, 9-1) A Chain Asunder.

Bram Ironfell

Details: A wealthy dwarf who lives in Overlook. A member of the Elsir Consortium and scion of Clan Ironfell.

Appearance: He has a blond beard and hair and is balding a bit on the sides. He wears lots of jewelry.

Mannerisms: No real guidance is provided in LMoK. In TotSSK Bram has some regrets about his decision and he acts harried and fearful.

Features in: LMoK, TotSSK

Plot Notes: In LMoK Bram seeks out the PC and informs them that he has found some info on the lost mines, and that he believes the mines have something to do with Sarshan. He hires the PCs to find and investigate the lost mines with the intention to use the resources from the mines to help defend Overlook and the Elsir Vale. It's also revealed that Bram worked with Sarshan in the past, but it has no impact to LMoK. In TotSSK Bram reappears as an ambassador to Cachlain’s court representing the Githyanki. He deserted the people of the Elsir Vale because he was certain they were going to lose the war, and it was better to survive by joining the enemy than to die with the others. Depending on the PCs actions he may switch sides again and help the PCs in TotSSK.

Cachlain

Details: The Stone-Skinned King, a fomorian noble who lives in the Feywild. He maintains a broad network of interplanar portals, and at the beginning of TotSSK, is using those portals to aid the githyanki. He is particularly fond of crystals and constructs. Ascended to the throne by killing his own father.

Appearance: His body is deformed, purple, and covered in warts. He has grafted pieces of a stone golem to his body.

Mannerisms: Gruff and easily distracted; difficult to hold a conversation with. Rarely asks questions. Unrelentingly paranoid. Slightly less cruel than typical formorian kings.

Features in: Referred to in tTB, appears in TotSSK

Plot Notes: Cachlain provided the Seed of Winter to Chillreaver for use in AaN. He was convinced by Sovacles, his advisor who is actually Virizan an exarch of Tiamat, to support the githyanki. By the end of TotSSK, he converts to neutrality and stops aiding the githyanki.

Cadrick

Details: Elder on the Council of Overlook

Appearance: Old gray and wrinkled Dwarf with a beard that hangs to his feet. Wears a luxuriant purple and silver damask robe.

Mannerisms: None

Features in: SoBW, BtMT

Plot Notes: Cadrick has no impact to the plot other then giving speeches that motivate the party to get the plot rolling in SoBW and BtMT. Interestingly enough Overlook does have a Inn named Cadrick's Boarding House, there does not seem to be any connection.

Durkik Forgeheart

Details: High Priest of Moradin. Has run the The Stone Anvil, the most powerful church in Overlook, for the last 30 years.

Appearance: None specified.

Mannerisms: Beaten-down, tired, and increasingly corrupt politician in SoBW, but can become a "youthful" inspired devout priest of Moradin by the end of tTB.

Features in: SoBW, tTB

Plot Notes: He is introduced by Elder Cadrick at the start of SoBW and leads the garrison station at Bordin's Watch. He is kidnapped and replaced by a doppelganger in tTB. The PCs rescue him over the course of the adventure, and he participates in the climatic battle at the end of tTB. He thereafter rediscovers his faith and becomes a strong ally (if he survives).

Edgar Sommerfield

Details: Head of the adventuring group The Farstriders. He is a famous warlord, known to have fought in many battles.

Appearance: Half-elf, Thin, neat, short beard.

Mannerisms: Troyas is outspoken and rash. When speaking, he is somber, methodical, and humorless. Debate bores him, and he’d prefer to make quick, unilateral decisions than let issues get bogged down in endless chatter.

Plot Notes: Itrika is a minor NPC who is rescued from wreckage by the party during the battle of Overlook.

Iranda

Details: A dark creeper. Works for Modra and Sarshan.

Appearance: None provided.

Mannerisms: None provided.

Features in: RaR, SoBW

Plot Notes: Iranda is a monster encounter in SoBW. It's unlikely the party will talk with her or learn her name. SoBW unfortunately leaves several important plot points out - it neither names the "dark one emissary" in boiler room as Iranda, nor does it clarify that she is a dark creeper, nor notes that she carries the key required by the party for SRoU. One remedy is to have her carry a sheaf of documents spelling out her arms trading activities, which the party can connect to the note found on Sinruth in RaR, and to give her key. It also seems likely that the reference to Iranda as an "emissary" in the stat block is an error, as "the emissary" is clearly stated to be Sarshan in DotD

Irfelujhar

Details: A peerless lich ritual crafter. Irfelujhar is an extremely powerful and ancient lich famed for his ability to craft rituals of incredible power. He is served by Mornujhar, one of Tiamat’s most trusted and powerful servants. Irfelujhar originally worshipped Vecna, but Tiamat seduced him away from the Lord of the Spider Throne. Shortly afterward, Irfelujhar’s lair disappeared along with much of the surrounding woodland.

Appearance: A tall, gaunt, bald human clad in red robes trimmed with black edging stands before the pillar, an elongated ebon wand in hand. His sallow skin has fallen away in places, revealing gleaming white bones beneath.

Mannerisms: Taunts the adventurers, and believes he is invincible because he has survived death so many times.

Features in: GotMC

Plot Notes: Irfelujhar lives in the Mantled Citadel, hidden within the hollowed-out interior of a huge spire of black rock. The Mantled Citadel is in in the demiplane of Vaerothim, which was created by Irfelujhar and is connected to the Shadowfell. Tiamat seduced Irfelujhar into her service, recruiting him from Vecna, in order to corrupt a ritual that would summon Bahamut in his material form. Note that there is an error in BtMT, and the skull lord's notes should reference Irfelujhar.

Jalissa

Details: Half-elf acolyte of Ioun, trained in arcane and healing arts. Kidnapped by the hobgoblins at Rivenroar

Appearance: Blonde, beautiful

Mannerisms: Ditzy, falls for first hero to save her

Plot Notes: Jerra directs the party to the downed Githyanki ship piloted by Tokk'it at the start of the adventure.

Kalad

Details: Dwarven paladin of Moradin who is the last survivor of the Monastery of the Sundered Chain

Appearance: Kalad is tall for a dwarf, thickly muscled. When first encountered in SoBW, his beard has been cut from his face by orcs. He has a haunted look about him for he’s plagued with the horrors of the attack in SoBW. Having his beard grow and the haunted look leave is face over time can help develop this NPC as the adventure path progresses.

Mannerisms: Deeply pious, as one would expect of a holy warrior, Kalad spends a portion of each day in deep prayer, calling out to his god for guid-ance, comfort, and a renewal of his resolve to continue his fight against the darkness. Outside these private times, Kalad is friendly, if gruff, constant in his support, but always detached. He doesn’t have much use for humor and ignores the banter of those around him. He has a mission and he intends to see it to its end. He might be reserved in his relations, but the PCs couldn’t ask for a more committed ally. Kalad sees the PCs as divine agents heroes sent by the gods to save him and reveal to him his life’s purpose. Thus, he watches the characters for further revelations that might shed light on what lies in store for him next.

Features in: SoBW, LMoK, HotBG, ACA*, TofSSK

Plot Notes: Kalad is an important NPC through the mid-Paragon levels. He is first found in SoBW where they rescue him from Og in the Monstery of the Sundered Chain. Kalad then offers to help sealing the Nexus. In LMoK Kalad has taken up a position as a sergeant in the Overlook watch. He finds the PCs and introduces Bram Ironfell as part of the hook for that adventure. Later in HotBG he becomes general of The Coalition. Finally, he is assassinated by the Githyanki "off screen" in TofSSK while preparing for a battle near Sherrbyr.

Other Notes:  Version of Kalad made into a PC available here.

Plot Notes: Lavinya starts the adventure in tTB by telling the party that a hidden danger is growing in Overlook. Depending on the party's actions, she may die in the battle of Overlook at the end of tTB

Leena

Details: Shadar kai witch from Umbraforge, follower of Sarshan

Appearance: She wears a black cloak edged with adamantine beads, and she keeps her long hair plaited to hang down her back. Gold piercings line her ears and lower lip, and a black starburst tattoo encloses her right eye.

Mannerisms: Leena is a kind of moral reflection of Sarshan. Every bit the opportunist, she is happy to take advantage of the march to war as long as it offers profit for her, but has a change of heart when she observes the honorable behavior of the PCs.

Features in: SRoUF

Madrick

Details: Gnome rogue, member of the Freeriders

Appearance: short, with pale skin, and large black eyes. He wears brown and gray clothing to help him sneak about. His best friend in the world is Bandit and

Details: Ranger, found in the Thornwaste.

Appearance: tattered black cloak and a battered wide-brimmed hat, with a spear and a book.

Mannerisms: friendly.

Maythas Fellbane*

Details: Brother to Egrimm Fellbane, a farrier in Overlook.

Appearance:

Mannerisms:

Features in: ACA*

Megan Swiftblade

Details: Human fighter, and leader of the Freeriders. After a friendly, if competetive intro (SoBW) she becomes jealous of the party's success later in the AP. Maybe good to

foreshadow this at the end of SoBW. Later needs the party's aid to survive assassin attacks (BtMT).

Appearance: Megan is sword thin with an attractive figure, keeps her blond hair cut short, and has a vicious scar that runs from her forehead and down her

left cheek.

Appearance: Brown Hair, Dark Complexion, Stern Look. She wears brown a leather beneath a green cloak, and a longbow is slung across her chest.

Mannerisms: Solemn, but helpful

Features in: SRoUF, potentially in DotD

Plot Notes: Reniss meets the PCs in Overlook during SRoUF while looking for her sister Jen. Reniss received the message "Modra . . ." from her system via sending stone right before she died. Reniss is looking for Modra and finds out a potential lead from another Dark Creeper. It's not clear if Reniss knows Modra is a Dark Creeper also. It's also implied the Reniss does not know that her sister Jen is dead, but you would have to guess that she suspects something bad has happened. There is little direction given for Reniss, what she does or how she fits into the adventure. Most folks seem to have her help out and then leave at the end of SRoUF. It's suggested in DotD that she could be the one who tells the PC's about Alys's kidnapping. Alternately, she can eliminated from SRoU, with her rumor handed out with the other rumors, and her role can be played by Kalad in DotD, as is suggested in DotD.

Sarshan

Details: Shadar kai arms dealer. Primary foe of the heroes during the heroic tier. He is "the Emissary" originally named in RaR.

Appearance: Sarshan is a Shadar-kai. His face is badly scared from an arcane accident that killed his family. One side effect of his scaring is that his that his gray shadar-kai complexion and black eyes naturally pale whenever he spends time away from the Shadowfell.

Mannerisms:

Features in: SRoUF, BtMT

Plot Notes: Sarshan is behind the scenes in RaR and SoBW, where he and his agents Iranda and Modra supplied weapons to Sinruth and Tusk to launch their attacks on Brindol and Overlook. The party encounters directly Sarshan in SRoU, where he offers them the opportunity to join him, and then he escapes during an earthquake. Sarshan is again behind the scenes in tLMoK, where Bram Ironfell works for him; and then again in DotD where he has organized the gnolls as well as placed a bounty on the heads of the PCs. He sits out the next two modules, and then reappears in BtMT and is defeated by the party in the elemental chaos.

Sinruth

Details: Hobgoblin founder of Sinruth’s Hand, a war band inspired by the Red Hand of Doom using a downward thrusting red hand insignia. Sinruth’s Hand is also ofter referred to as "The New Red Hand" or just "The Red Hand". He uses the catacombs beneath the long-ruined Castle Rivenroar as a base of operations. Sinruth leads a raid against Brindol, which kicks off the SoW AP, kidnaping several towns folks and stealing some historical Red Had related items. The AP assumes he is killed by the PCs in Castle Rivenroar.

Appearance: No details of Sinruth's appearance are provided, assume he is a large Hobgoblin with spiked plate armor.

Mannerisms: Sinruth is, at the end of the day, something of a wannabe. He aspires to be part of a great horde like the one that menaced Brindol and the entire region as The Red Hand of Doom once did.

Features in: RaR

Plot Notes: The PC's find a note on Sinruth from the "The Emissary" (who is the shadar-kai Sarshan) that recommends the hobgoblins attack Brindol and implies that "The Emissary" will help provide more soldiers to the new hand.

Sertanin has an apprentice named Aeomon, which can fill in for Sertanian if he did not survive the ordeal at Rivenroar.
