Haven of the Bitter Glass

Page history last edited by pbworks 8 years ago

Character Level: 12-14

Synopsis

A flying ship crashlands near the walls of Overlook, piloted by a githzerai. An unnaturally quick and well organized githyanki attack is taking place on the last githzerai fortress in the area and he seeks aid. The party fights off a githyanki recovery team and flies back to the fortress to do battle. Once the battle is over the party is invited to a war council at  the nearby city of Sayre, led by Amyria. In Sayre the party meets a githyanki celebrity called Telicanthus, and try to organize the githzerai factions. They discover a githyanki plot and following clues raid Telicanthus' mansion, finding tunnels beneath that lead to a powerful communications device, the Bitter Glass, that has helped the githyanki coordinate their invasion plans.

Main Plot Points:

  • The invasion gathers force and is being coordinated across the Elsir Vale by githyanki agents
  • The githerzai will make valuable allies in the war against the githyanki.

Thoughts

  • A longer and more roleplaying focused adventure than most, where the best route to winning the day is for the party to think their way to victory. Hack and slashers may struggle a bit with this one.
  • Get rid of the "50% chance the ship drops every round" mechanic. It makes the fights take way longer and adds a lot of confusion to the three dimensional angle of the game, which D&D isn't very good at supporting in the first place.

Continuity Notes

  • Kalad and Amyria make a reappearrance: ensure they've made the odd appearance or have been mentioned in recent adventures

Maps

The first two combat encounters take place on board the Conqueror, so you only really need to print it out once.  I put it on here twice just for the sake of tracking encounters. Same with the Covet House/Guardian of Greed encounters.

I would add maps of the under levels of the ships if, like in my case, you allow them to use the ship to get to Sayer, and bring in Brann'ot onbaord the ship.
Then he can disappear throughout the ship, making for great fun as they try to pin him down.

This seems to be the last adventure with maps added. Is someone working on maps for the following adventures or can someone provide instructions on how to create the maps?
